Walking Tours of Dublin

Duality, Identity & Revolution

A Walking Tour

Leonor Bethencourt, your masked tour guide, presents a new imaginative walking tour of Dublin. A theatre maker, comedienne and mental health advocate, Bethencourt was born in Spain to a Northern Irish mother and Spanish father. She has lived in Dublin for the last 25 years. In this tour of ‘Dublin streets less travelled’, Leonor, aka Zocorro, sets the mask against the backdrop of Irish history, personal experience and the present moment.

Tour Highlights:

The Superhero Mask: William Lamport, the Irish Zorro, legend and legacy.

The Performance Mask: Lola Montez, pretending to be Spanish and the road to fame.

The Political Mask: Terrorism, guerilla warfare and Irish rebel blood.

Never far from the autobiographical in her material, Leonor Bethencourt’s comedy alter-ego Zocorro, was born in 2006 inspired by an Irish Food Safety campaign. The name Zocorro, a nod to her hispanic roots. Since then she has donned the mask in different comedic outings, on stage and on the streets all over Ireland.

Zocorro Reviews:

“understated wit and lovely comic timing” IRISH MAIL ON SUNDAY - ★★★★”

“delivers killer jokes…” – IRISH THEATRE MAGAZINE”

“a keen comic talent. Ees funny - IRISH TIMES”

This is a storytelling and a street art experience tour. Private or adapted tours are available by appointment. Tours are available in English and in Spanish. Participants may opt to wear a mask of Zocorro (provided) during this tour, which is as much for locals as for tourists.

The tours begin at the Palace Street Gate entrance to Dublin Castle and finish at St. Kevin's Park in Portobello. Approximately 90 minutes in duration, tours can be booked on Eventbrite or by appointment.

With a quixotic feel, these new walking tours are guaranteed to be original, eye opening, thought provoking, and funny at times. Tours are intimate, small in numbers and go ahead in rain, hail or shine.
